Offshore wind in India takes another step forward

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has taken a further step in progressing offshore wind development in India by publishing draft lease rules for potential developers.  The draft rules are open for comment until the 25th February 2019.

No development (survey or construction) can take place without securing a lease for the available areas 100-500km2 and up to 200 nautical miles from the coast within the India’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Offshore wind in India has huge potential and this is a great first step in providing another form of clean energy to the largest democracy in the world.
